Okay so I dont know how to post videos onto the blog and for it to actually work. However Ive done a few attempts at the opening animation, the loading screen. Maybe ill take some screenshots so you can see the progress of what it looks like. Anyway after that happened I had a crises on the colour of my app and have now decided to try and find a new set of colours.

I decided to go with the bottom right one.

what I've done so far on the screen design for each part, what I'm doing is turning each symbol for the parts like signs, other road users, driver responsibility, limits etc. into a map to go in the background for each subsequent menu or whatever the word should be.

meeting with Donald

So I met with Donald mid-week to discuss my design ideas I had come up with.

So we decided the map one had the most (something) to it. The one with the colour overlay is to old and overdone and the long one would make moving around the app more complicated and I want it to be very simple.

So totally downloaded sketch, its amazing. However, after having talked to Donald he pointed out something very key. Wheres the design. Yeah theres the design on how to use it, but not the other kind. So gotta get to work work work work work.

So, I know it looks like shite but I'm now thinking about layout and how its going to be used. Needs to be simple and clean. Apparently theres a couple of things that will make designing an app a lot easier (sketch and adobe xd) but xd isn't showing on my creative cloud so I might try out sketch.

Week 8

Okay starting to freak out, I need to get my a in to g and work work work work work. Havant done much this last week because we had a presentation for futures and we were a man down.

So, I've now decided that I will be doing an app that has the road code and practice tests on it, because their aren't any apps around that have both and the apps that exist that have the road code on them just link back to the nzta website.

Heres some of my ideas on what it could look like format wise (is format the right word??)

So, I put of actually doing work for this until wednesday two days before. Maybe that was the point when I realised my new brilliant idea was a bit shit. Excuse the bad design, its shite. Anyway had a talk to Jason, he gave me a push in a new direction, back towards an app. We talked about my idea and we both agreed it was already done and boring. We talked about going speculatively, adding to an app thats already out there that could change how we receive notifications in the car or something. He talked about his teen having downloaded an app that they practiced on so ill have to look into that side of things. Thank god for this break, I need it to hit the reset button.

Week 5

So, I'm now not doing an app. Trying to design an app for education for school just wasn't working so I thought I would do a campaign. Something fun to get the kids laughing and enjoying but also understanding.

week 4

Talked with Tristam, he let me know that I didn't need to do what I was trying to do which was to much. I took in some quick shitty sketches which will be below. At this point, after this talk I want to educate but am starting to question the validity of it being an in school device/app/thing. What with their being periods and not just one class and all (which I hadn't thought about). So this might have to be something else instead.

week 3

I went to the time management one with mark. He had some really helpful ideas, hopefully I dont follow my usual procrastination path and manage to use these hints to keep on top of everything

The other one I cant remember the name of but it was with antony and jason (I think). It was pretty helpful, let me realise that I knew more about where I was wanting to go then I have been thinking for the last few weeks panicking about this.

week 2

My epic project story...

As a New Zealand designer I want to explore road safety awareness using the communication theory with information visualisation and statistics.

Pretty much has all the new zealand road ads from the past few years, including print ones that i cant remember seeing, but i wasn't really the target audience back then.

differences

The complete tonal shift between the top add (which came out around 10 years ago) and the bottom (5 years ago) is crazy. Where one uses a hard-hitting kind of scary message, the other one is our humour.
